Final Magazine

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

From looking back at my preliminary task, i feel that i have learnt alot since i started such as the media conventions used in magazines and the music conventions. Such as layout, text, font and house style. The magazine which i refered to throughout my project was the XXL magazine. It was one of the best Hip-hop magazines in britain.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

What I have learnt about technologies from this process of constructing this product is that
programmes like Macromedia Fireworks and Photoshop can be used to manipulate and construde photographs which is exactly what published magazines do. The whole point of manipulating the photographs is to make them more appealing to the reader so they'll buy the magazine.

On Fireworks you can create layers, where on an image you can put another image on top of that or 'layer' and you can manipulate the images by rotating it, colouring it, constructing it.

How did you attract/address your audience?

My colour palete is Black, Red, Pink. I got these colours by giving a questionnaire to my target audience and asking which colours they would like to see in a hip-hop and RnB magazine.
I used the font 'you are loved' and 'Love Ya Like A...' and 'Bernard MT Condensed'.
I have taken my images of my model as a professional photographer as many of the magazines i researched their photographs of their models were very well done in one location in a variety of poses. I took shots from many different angles such as a close up, mid-body shot and a full body shot. The language i used is quite informal as if your talking to your friend.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The age of my will be 16-35
They will be mainly Boys but some girls who are also intrested in Hip-hop and RnB music.
They will be Lower - Middle Class young people.
Black/White
They will be in higher education like, Sixth form, College, University or in appreticeships
They will be intrested in football, hip-hop and RnB music and would like to keep up to date with the latest music.
If they were in a Youth Tribe they would probably be 'Chavs' or 'Laydback'

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

My music magazine 'RECORDZ' would be duistributed by a music media instituation that distribute things maily to do with music such as CD's to music stores and music magazines to newsagents and shopping stores. So it shall be distributed thorugh one of the big publishing houses as they'll have experience in producing magazines and will have teams dedicated to research and knowing where to sell the magazine such as which news agents will be best ones near colleges or schools or big sumermarkets that lots of people visit everyday or a big train station as many people young and old go through there everyday.

I would want my magazine to be part of a big publishing house as i would need lots of money to back me, even though i might not get all the profits as to if i was an independant magazine but if i was independant i wouldnt be able to advertise my magazine properly so that people know it and recognise it. Other wise i wont be able to do that without the money rom the big publishing house.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In my magazine It dosnt really represent one type of social group its a magazine for anyone who like Hip-hop and RnB music they can be Upper class or Lower class. If i were to put a name on them i would probably be for lower class and middle class young people who are more likely to like these types of genre of music as upper and higher class people would probably enjoy a more classical or west end magazine. They are not really represented but i do have pictures of a young RnB singer who rised from being a lower class girl into a singing sensation.

Target Audience

The target audience for my magazine will be for some females but mainly males. As mostly malesare intrested in Hip-hop than men but the R&B part of the magazine will intrst and appeal to the reader. The age for my magazine will be from 16 + years of age, so people in their early teens and upwards. I made my magazine's advert's appealing to males by appealing to their love of gadgets and beautiful women. I based some of my key demographics on XXL as it's also a Hip-hop and R&B genre magazine aswell. I want my magazine to appeal to both men and women, i wll aim more for targeting the men.

Picture Comparison

· I posed in the same way as Jay Sean –
1. looking off to the left
2. mouth closed
3. eyes focused
4. only the right ear is showing.
· I also had limited resources so I couldn’t take the picture in front of a background like Jay Sean’s but a similar one that is plain white.

Possible Advert's

This was my first Advert i made for a Electric Guitar.
I used bright Bold fonts coloured red to stand out, and grab the readers attention.

I then changed it to advertise Headphones instead of a Guitar because Guitars are rock and roll and so shouldnt be in a hip-hop/rnb magazine so i advertised headphones which are more related to Hip-hop/rnb.

I looked at usual adverts in hip-hop/RnB magazines and they genericaly have beautiful models wearing or showing the product, which i have done i then used bright colours and a bold font to grab the readers attention. I then used the colour green for the price as green is ascoiated with money.

I also used an artist 'GG' that is mentioned in my magazine to advertise it so that the reader may want to buy it because GG has endorsed it.

Experimentation with Editing

These are pictures i took of myself and then edited them to see different effects and then choose how i could use them in my magazine.
This is a Cinematic effect, as if it is in the cinema.

This is a black and white effect.

Album Covers

These is my album covers i had to make for my article in my magazine. All these articles are going to be put on my article "The top 5 new artists of '09". I edited all my pictures on picnik.com. This will fit into a normal magazine as they have reviews and news of new artists and their albums.
This is my album for the fictional duo Azzamo. As it is an RnB album i made it look very inresting with the picture edited. I planned to call it 'Glass Windows' so i took a picture of the model with some glass windows in the background. I didnt manipulate this image except add text to it as the picture is exactly what i intended it to be.
This is the fictional album of Saff, I did not edit the picture as i planned the albums name to be 'white black' so i took a picture of her against a half white and black background. This is also a raw image apart from the text.

This is another fictional RnB singer called Jessikahhh. i made the picture black and white except for her haire and eyes which are peircing red. I planned to call the album 'Back to the joint' as if she went into prison and came out but is now back in, so i took a picture to look as if she was in jail behind some bars.

This is the fictional album for GG an RnB singer called 'Flash' so i decided to make the album look as if its moving but her face is still, and have the font in a font typical to RnB. I used a application on picnik to make it focus on the models face.

This is the fictional album for Hip-hop artist Caesar i took a picture of the model singing into a mic just like the ones found in music studio's to make it look authentic. i darkened the edges and boosted the colour of the very handsome model.

NME Front Cover Anaylisis

I analysised NME magazine which is a rock/indie magazine. The title is allocated in the top left hand corner underneath the strapline, it is brightly coloured red with a white outline to catch the attention of the consumer, it also is situated behind the main article image presuming the reader can tell it's NME by only seeing half of the title. This is done so not to take away attention from the main article. Another feauture used on the front cover is thier centre image on the main article. This image is of the featured artist (main article) and also related to the main article picture. Puffs are also included on the front cover of the magazine as circles to promote the big features inside of the magazine.
When analysing NME magazine cover, i have found that the house style of NME, it has a generic layout in every issue of theirs. They're house style colours were throughout the whole magazine. The colours that they had used were peach, red, black and white. These colours do not appeal to one specific demographic such as one sex or groupp of people. By using this variety of different colours for the front cover, made it all appealing to all demographics. By looking at their magazine and their techniques I could use it for my own magazine to draw more readers towards my magazine either people who are a fan of my type of music genre or it could convert people into listening to my genre. This would appeal to all the different demographs of people, and not leave out a specific group.
This can help me in future when I'm creating my music magazine as I can look at the cover and the layout and try to make mine similar to it so it looks more realistic. I listed the barcode, puffs, masthead, title of magazine, main article image, price and subheading. This is because I would be including these features on my magazine so that it looks like an actual published magazine.
